Coring Agaves for Propagation (second attempt)

Well I REALLY enjoyed the results of my last attempt at coring my Agave attenuata 'Silver  Trim'.  So I've been keeping an eye open for another 'Silver Trim' with unsual variegation.

Today I found Victim #2

Isn't she stunning!!!  I'm sure this one is going to provide lots of gorgeous babies for me.  Will keep you updated as to progress.

This time I might actually behead this beauty and strip the heavily variegated leaves.  I'd like to keep the top part of the plant intact if possible.  Love it.

Coring experiment results

So.... some results. So back in this  Old Post I cored and did nasty things to my Agave attenuata 'Silver Trim'.  Anyway was brave last month and decided  to pot a few up before it got toooo cold here in Perth.

These are the ones that successfully rooted.  Kind of happy with these!

A lovely May Day

Every now and then you time it "JUST RIGHT" at Bunnings.  Today was one of those days.  I was on my way to the airport to pick up some friends from Queensland (we're doing a 4 day plant tour of Western Australia... from Gin Gin to Harvey and a lot of places in between!!! Should be a great couple of days with about 14 different gardens/growers to visit during that time)

Anyway, so I arrived at Bunnings Balcatta today and went to the usual area, and was sadly disappointed.  BUT given I was there I thought I would look into the boxes that hadn't been unpacked as yet as they looked suspiciously like Paradisia boxes.... and yes they were.... even better BEHIND the boxes they had already started to put the plants out on display

Oh plant porn time.... I nearly walked away thinking nah, nothing I wanted, and then I spotted it in the far back row behind a crassula springtime.  A BLUE GLOW!!!! OMG.  Yes I know I already have one, but this one is Tissue Cultured I'm pretty sure, and the TC ones have a tendency to throw more pups that those propagated vegetatively.....(um is that word ? )

Given that I was then going to buy a plant I had a closer look at some of the others..... I don't have a Agave geminiflora as yet, and I liked the white edges... so that went in, and the Aloe dichotoma I liked the leaf form... but I suspect I shall be rehoming that one.  BUT for less than $12 each I thought it was a bargain.

So anyway - today's purchases.

I still managed to get to the airport on time as well (bonus!) can't wait to start enjoying touring WA with fellow succulent addicts

A new love... well a couple actually

How gorgeous is this one!  Agave 'Snow Glow', a variegated form of Agave 'Blue Glow'.  This is definitely heading up there as one of my favourites, the colours are just superb

Agave 'Sun Glow'

As is usual with me I couldn't resist a couple of other pretties at the same time...

Agave macroacantha 'Blue Ribbon'

Agave 'Royal Spine'

Agave 'desmettiana Joe Hoak'

Agave 'Cream Spike'

Agave victoriae-reginae 'Miniature'

Agave colorata variegated

Agave schidigera 'Queen of White Threads'

Agave filifera variegated

Agave victoriae-reginae variegated

Agave potatorum "Kichijokan" mediopicta

Agave bracteosa 'Monterroy Frost'

Agave salmianna v ferox variegata

I'd like to be able to say that my obsession with these spikies beauties is coming to and end.... but unfortunately I can't.  Have another couple turning up this week..  At least I will have lots of pretties to keep me smiling.
